That is interesting...

I had a patient scheduled this afternoon for prophy ( teeth cleaning). Since it's my 10+ time cleaning teeth, I am no longer worry about the procedure. So as usual, I went to check out this patient's chart during lunch time to do a preview on her medical /dental history. Everything looks just prefectly normal to me til I read her chief complain ( the reason why you come to dental school for treatment? )..... My 20-year-old patient put down under her chief complain: "I just want to make sure that my dentist is not trying to make extra money from me than he really deserves." What the hell?!!!... that was my reaction at that moment.. -_-

She filled out the chief complain when she first came into dental school for treatment and today she was back for 6 months recall teeth cleaning appointment. Well, apparently ( or hopefully) she was referring to her old dentist, a guy, who did some unsatisfied dental work on her..
I couldn't wait to show her chief complain to the upper classmate who referred this girl to me.. And apparently he didn't even read her chart :-( all he could say is "good luck, Yang~"

I don't know this girl, I've never had any problem with my patients so far... but now this young girl, who was unsatisfied with the dental work done in her mouth in the past will be sitting in my chair in about an hour... Yeah, I was a little worry... ( even though I was only going to clean her teeth) and what can she do? throw me with eggs in the clinic?

2:00 pm I was again looking for an empty chair in the clinic while I knew she should be waiting for me outside. ( My clinic is so unorganized, we have only two D2 chairs for 6 of us have to fight for ... ) I was actually lucky today to get an empty chair waiting there for me, but by the time I ran out to the waiting area to get her, it was already 2:20pm. ( what I had in mind during that time was.. oh geez... she is going to pick me on that, isn't she? )

To make the long story short, she had no problem waiting for me for such a long time, and in fact, she ended up LOVING me to be her dental student today ( she said" wow!! you are the best one I had so far!!!) for the following reasons...
1) I READ her chart before the appointment, so when she said she has certain dental surgery done in the past, I could actually refer those from her chart and she just loved the fact that I do care about her!!! ( I am so proud of myself too!!! and to be honest, I didn't read her chart til lunch time.. haha I was just lucky on that you may say...)
2) When she walked in to the clinic with me, she "warned" me that she has to go to work at 4:30, so I "have to" make it happen before that... ( geez.. who is giving the treatment here...?!)
Well, luckily, her teeth wasn't too bad, so we actually make EVERYTHING happen without skipping any steps. I waved and said goodbye to her and her mom at exact 4:30pm. YA!!
3) I gave her the sample oral B toothbrush plus floss... so she left with souvenirs.. ( well, we actually did that for all prophy patients.)

So, I guess I should say.. that was an accomplishment.. or maybe I was just too paranoid? hahaha... you do the judgment.

But one more thing I want to say.. I won't do crapy works on you if I know that you have been an excellent patient who never had problems on pervious dental work. I might freak out a little on "problem patients", but I am always nice to the excellent ones.. :-)
